Technically, I got the news yesterday that the Austin American-Statesman won 2nd place for Project Reporting at the Associated Press Sports Editors National Sports Journalism Awards. So it’s not an April Fool’s trick!

The editors included my contribution to the package of Formula 1 coverage, namely my story on Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina circuit which first opened in 2009. Austin is set to get the next F1 track scheduled to deafen all within earshot in May 2012. It’s the first – and probably, the last – time my byline has shown up in a sports journalism contest. The win is a really nice surprise.
